#12: I learned how powerful using delayed gratification can be. As I wrote in the book, I don’t know how other people learn this. I actually looked online to see how parents can teach their children about it. The detailed 7-point AI answer seems to assume that all parents are child psychologists. For whatever reason, it hadn’t gotten added to my toolbox. But it’s there now. On the surface, delayed gratification might be about holding off today for something bigger tomorrow. But its more profound outputs are control and power. I passed up the Krispy Kreme doughnut today so I will feel better tomorrow. But the control and power I experienced from having done it changes who I am inside.
